The Faculty of Science and Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research are looking for a Tenure Track position in Medicinal Chemistry
Key responsibilities

The candidate will establish and maintain an independent internationally recognized research program in medicinal chemistry within the division of Drug Discovery and Safety. The candidate will contribute to the teaching tasks, and share other responsibilities of the division and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR). Candidates from the (broad) field of medicinal chemistry are invited to apply. Candidates aspire to excel in their discipline, and are open to collaborate within the institute with complementary disciplines, as well as those within our faculty. Candidates are expected to contribute to the teaching programs of LACDR, which include Bachelor and Master programs in Biopharmaceutical Sciences (BPS), as well as the Master program in Pharmacy. The position has a variety of tasks depending on the entry level as an assistant professor or associate professor:
Establish and maintain independent research lines in the field of medicinal chemistry for innovative drug discovery and development;
Participate in LACDR's strategic collaboration with the Leiden Institute of Chemistry in the context of the National Sectorplan Chemistry
Contribute to the development of a new generation of young academics;
Initiate ambitious research projects, writes national and international grant proposals;
Teach at different levels of the curriculum and actively contribute to innovative teaching and to the translation of the research into teaching;
Undertake administrative, managerial and governance tasks within the Institute and Faculty;
Convey the academic knowledge and insights acquired to society.
Selection criteria
PhD degree in (Medicinal) Chemistry;
Excellence in research, as proven by PhD thesis and publications;
Affinity to proven experience with teaching;
Potential to proven ability to obtain research grants;
Experience with membrane proteins and/or research in oncology is preferred;
Natural group leader;
Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ).

The Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) is a leading institute dedicated to world-class research and education in drug discovery and development. LACDR comprises a diverse and international team of approximately 150 researchers. The research conducted at the LACDR is clustered within the divisions of BioTherapeutics, Drug Discovery & Safety and Systems Biomedicine & Pharmacology. The various research topics carried out within these themes are ideal for executing interdisciplinary research from, a strong monodisciplinary basis.
Terms and conditions
The track consists of a temporary appointment for a period of six years maximum. The gross monthly salary at assistant professor level is between € 3.746,- and € 5.826,- depending on your level of experience. (pay scale 11 or 12 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
An appointment with Leiden University includes a pension build-up and other benefits; these include an annual holiday premium of 8%, an end-of-year premium of 8.3% and a paid parental leave of 62,5%. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
Dual Career Programme
Leiden University offers a Dual Career Programme (DCP) to assist the life partners of new academic staff (on pay-roll) in finding employment in The Netherlands.
