How to reach Liège?

Getting to Liège, Belgium

Liège is located in the heart of Western Europe and is easily accessible by train, plane, and car. As one of Belgium’s major cities, it benefits from excellent international transport connections. Liège is situated close to Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, and lies less than one hour from Brussels by train.

By Train

Traveling by train is often the most convenient and environmentally friendly way to reach Liège. The city is served by Liège Guillemins Station, an architectural landmark designed by Santiago Calatrava and one of Belgium’s main railway hubs. The station offers frequent national connections to Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Namur, and other Belgian cities, as well as international high-speed services linking Liège with destinations such as Paris, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam.

Liège Guillemins is located close to the city center and is well connected by public transport, taxi services, and hotels.

By Plane

Several airports provide convenient access to Liège:

  • Brussels Airport (BRU) – Belgium’s main international airport, located approximately 90 km from Liège. Direct trains connect Brussels Airport to Liège-Guillemins in about one hour, making this the preferred option.
  • Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) – A major hub for low-cost airlines, located approximately 88 km from Liège.

Participants arriving by air will find regular rail and bus connections to Liège, allowing easy onward travel to the congress venue.

By Car

Liège is located at the intersection of several major European motorways and can be reached easily by car from neighboring countries. Key routes include:

  • E40 connecting Brussels, Germany, and the Belgian coast;
  • E25 connecting the Netherlands, Liège, and Luxembourg;
  • E42 connecting France and southern Belgium;
  • E313 connecting Antwerp and Liège.

Several public parking facilities are available throughout the city. For visitors wishing to avoid city-center traffic, Park-and-Ride (P+R) facilities on the outskirts provide convenient access to Liège via public transport.

Local Transportation

Once in Liège, participants can easily travel around the city using buses, taxis, and the local tram network. Many hotels, restaurants, and cultural attractions are located within walking distance of the city center and the Liège Guillemins district.
